PSY BEH 11B Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Sea Slug, Frenda, Reinforcement
Document Summary
Change in behavior or knowledge as a result of experience or instruction. Occurs at biological (brain) and behavioral level. The core of our existence, ability to change, our functioning, and our adaption. Can be the potential to change as well (learning something and not acting upon it) Occurs across species and ages (even single celled organism change their shape in response to being prodded by a needle) Understanding how and why learning takes place. Focus on simple forms first then test to see if they generalize. Decrease in strength of a response after repeated presentation of stimulus. Respond more strongly over time to repeated dangerous, irritating, or both stimuli. Sea slug example- shocking slug for prolonged times causes them to withdraw longer and longer, not habituated.
