PSY BEH 11A Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Spectral Power Distribution, Spectral Sensitivity, Trichromacy
Document Summary
Color appearance can be ordered by three perceptual dimensions. Normal human color vision is trichromatic & depends on the responses of three types of cone photoreceptor to light. Responses from different cone types are compared to produce opponent color pairs red: green, blue v. yellow, & black v. white, so accounting for. Cortical color vision mechanisms help us to perceive the colors of surfaces that reflect light. Complementary colors, color contrast, & negative afterimages. Visible spectrum -> includes electromagnetic energy in the range of wavelengths 400 through 700 nanometers. Wavelengths have approximate appearance in terms of color. Only small bit of the world eyes are sensitive too -> plenty of electromagnetic energy that are not able to sense visually. Roy g. biv -> red orange yellow green blue indigo violet. Nanometer = 1 billionth of a meter. Turns out that shorter wavelengths are bent more strongly by prism than longer wavelengths.
