We all experience it & have it but what is it. Implications from experiments -> hemispheres can have separate conscious experiences. Either there is one consciousness that can be cut into two or everyone has two consciousnesses. White matter = neural axons that connect cell bodies. Left hemisphere is in charge, dominant hemisphere. Left hemisphere tends to be happier & right hemisphere is sadder & more realistic. Left hemisphere has ability to use speech. Can show something to left visual field & have left hand spell things out. Would tell patient to attend to the d"s or to attend to the l. Stroke in left hemisphere -> becomes very unhappy & know that something bad happened. Stroke in right hemisphere -> patient is very happy & can even deny there is a problem. Uses connections over corpus callosum to inhibit right hemisphere. Why might seem like you have a single self. As though right hemisphere looking at more global properties.
