Effects of social exclusion: simulated rejection, personality test spend your life alone . In the brain, pain is experienced in the same part whether its from social pain or physical pain. The chameleon effect: william james proposed ideomotor action (thinking leads to doing, people unconsciously mimic others behavior, we are tuned to others tend to do as they do without thinking. Situationism and social influence: people are social animals our evolutionary niche, our strategy for survival is group life, behavior is deeply affected by the situation. By situation we mean the social situation other people. Because we people are so fundamentally social, our thoughts, feelings, and behavior are influenced by the people around us. Hence, the power of situations affect us. Conformity: 2 kinds of social influence. Stems from a fear of rejection or desire for approval. Stems from need to look to others for clarification.
