Dimensional model - individuals rated on degree to which they exhibit various personality traits. Thought to begin childhood - many wait years for treatment. Tend to run chronic course if untreated. Comorbidity is the rule, not the exception. Early learning that people and world are dangerous. Refugees or prisoners learned experience of mistrusting people. Few seek professional help on their own only 11% continue with treatment. Lack of good outcome studies because people rarely seek treatment. Pervasive pattern of detachment from social relationships.
