Document Summary
Over many generations, those w/ the characteristics needed for survival make up an increased percentage of the population. Evolutionary psychology: evolutionary psychology: emphasized the importance of adaptation, reproduction & survival of the fittest in shaping behavior reproductive success ability to pass your genes to the next. In this view, natural selection favors behaviors that increase: evolution shapes our physical features as well as how we make generation decisions, our aggressiveness, fears & mating patterns. Ex: our ancestors were hunters & gatherers. Men did most the hunting, women stayed close to home gathering seeds & plants for food. To hunt an animal, you need certain physical traits & ability to perform spatial thinking. Natural selection only focuses on characteristics tied to reproductive fitness, which extends through earlier adulthood selection primarily operates. Much of evolutionary psychology cannot be tested scientifically & it relies mainly on post hoc (after the fact) explanations.
