Document Summary

A melody isn"t a concept that only occurs in western music. A second melody played against the first is called a countermelody. The distance between two pitches is called interval. Most children"s songs have a narrow range. The contour of the opening phrase of joy to the world can be described as descending. The type of melodic movement in the star spangled banner can be described as disjunct. Bodhran: an irish wooden drum, held in one hand and played with a wooden beater. Bongo drums: fairly high-pitched drums, joined in pairs and usually played with fingers and palms. Chord progressions: different progressions using the chords built on the 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th notes of a major or minor scale. Atonal: the music has no feeling of key, major or minor. It is very dissonant and lacks a "nice" melody and accompaniment. A phrase and cadence in music can be compared to a sentence and period.
