Aristides (the just) was tasked with assessing each member"s contributions. Larger states contributed ships, most others gave cash. Tribute could be revised, and over time even large states started contributing cash. Funds overseen by ten athenian magistrates called hellenotamiai. Inscriptions documenting the athenian tribute lists track payments starting 454. For roughly 25 years, athens, under the command of cimon, spearheaded a strategy to remove persia from northern greece, the aegean, and the hellenspont/anatolian coast. Athens begun setting up colonies called a cleruchy. Not autonomous from mother city (athens), but considered part of athenian territory. Cleruchs given a kleros of land and retained athenian citizenship, usually poor citizens from attica. Athens becomes an invasive presence throughout eastern greece. Naxos tries to withdraw, but forcibly prevented by athens. The delian league presupposed a strong and threatening persia. 467 bce cimon defeats the persian fleet and army at the eurymedon river. Defections from the league start to occur.
