Bubbles of the atmosphere are trapped in the ice (this tells us how old the ice is) Cave speleothems: many layers grown over time (calcium carbonate) Can tell us amount of rainfall, what type of plants grew above the caves, where it"s from. Changes in the amount of radiation we get. Luminosity: the rate of emission of radiation, visible or otherwise. Colder winter (now farther from sun), warmer summer (now closer) Aerosols tiny particles of solid or liquid that stays suspended. Can change how much radiation gets absorbed: out of all aerosols, we"re most worried about co2, the one we"re changing the most. Anthropogenic: (chiefly of environmental pollution and pollutants) originating in human activity. Internal changes to the earth system, such as: Plate tectonics: water vapor: greenhouse gas, increase the amount of radiation.
