Ater the humiliaion, emperor charles abdicated (renounced/abandoned) spain, Netherlands, & the american colonies will be ruled by his son, philip ii of spain. The eastern porion of his empire will be ruled by his brother, ferdinand ii. Ferdinand has to be tolerant of lutherans due to the treaty of augsburg. Philip ii is not at all tolerant of protestants.
