Hordes/ group marriage: 2) barbarism: pottery, agriculture, metallurgy polygyny (more than one spouse, 3) civilization: phonetic alphabet (sounds) Monogamy (only one spouse: you cannot skip any stages and have to go to complete one stage before you can go to the stage. Each stage has its own social/cultural traits. Primitives: people stuck in early stage: people frozen in time.
