After his voyage around the globe, darwin developed a theory in which he tried to express his view that plants and animals could mutate and adapt to varying conditions. In 1859, darwin published on the origin of species in which he explained his perspective of natural selection. Darwin did not initially publish his radical ideas, because they were controversial. Russel wallace was also studying the idea of natural selection, which compelled at the time and doing so could lead to punishment or serious consequences. Spencer discouraged educating the lower classes because they were always going to be stuck at the bottom of society regardless of their available opportunities. Spencer"s view became known as social darwinism or spencerism . Scottish anthropologist who publishes primitive culture in 1871. Used his book to claim that religion was a sign of how evolved a society.
