The experience of being sick is not only affected by the biology of disease. How you have learned to identify and make sense of symptoms and experience (ex: bipolar disorder, illness narrative, old hag) How the illness influences all aspects of your life; relationships with family/friends, education, work, hobbies, etc. (ex: hemophilia) Social stigmas and metaphors associated with various forms of sickness. (ex: leprosy, tb, Metaphori(cid:272)al use of the ter(cid:373) suggests (cid:862)split perso(cid:374)alities(cid:863) or rapid a(cid:374)d u(cid:374)e(cid:454)pe(cid:272)ted switch from one state to another. How does this affect views of individuals with schizophrenia: the term schizophrenia can be used as a metaphor. For example, the weather is schizophrenic right now. We have seen this in many articles and news posts: this produces this idea that we can all use schizophrenic in this way because we understand that it means rapid switching back and forth between states. Now it is seen as a very aggressive disorder.
