ANATOMY 201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Renal Fascia, Renal Vein, Renal Cortex

70 views4 pages
Kidneys: Protected by ribs and cushion of fat
Two layers:
Perirenal fat- in more surrounding kidney
Perarenal fat (out towards edges)
-In retroperitoneal Space
Fascia:
Anterior posterior renal fascia
-Thick connective tissue is renal fascia
-Prevents infections from intestines and stomach or infection in
kidney from making its way out to your abdomen.
Kidneys: Filtering your blood
-Enough water, electrolytes, does it need to be adjusted?
-Controls consistency of blood by changing what is in your plasma
and they have the ability to change the volume of your blood
-Too much plasma: Kidneys will want to get plasma out, and you
will create more urine. If you don’t have enough, kidneys wont go
pee and filter as much.
-Kidneys regulate volume and consistency of blood
-Hilum: Majority of the blood flow coming in and out of the organ
Renal artery
Renal vein
Ureter
Ureter: Tube that goes from each of your kidney to bladder
Layers:
Renal cortex- outside (Lighter region)
Renal medulla- around the inside
Renal Pelvis- Big open space collecting space for urine. Down by
the ureter entrance
-Urine made in the cortex and medulla
-Works its way towards ureter
-Major Calyx (large tube)
-Minor Calyx (small tube)

Hilum: majority of the blood flow coming in and out of the organ: renal artery. Ureter: tube that goes from each of your kidney to bladder. Renal pelvis- big open space collecting space for urine. Series of tubes: job of collecting and creating urine. Primary substance is plasma from your blood which makes up urine.
