Yeltsin concentrates on the economy for 2 years (jan 2, 1992-1993) Radical market reform shock therapy : eliminate price controls (open up the economy to competition and allow bankruptcy) Prices were used to control the flow of the economy. A lot of things were subsidized (paid for) by the state. *idea is to change people"s incentives overnight high risk: privatize state property. Clear that no idea what a market economy would really entail. Prices rise, people"s" lifetime savings disappear, economic depression deepens.
