The nervous system consists of the central nervous system, and the peripheral nervous
system.
The central nervous system is the processing center of the nervous system. T
The peripheral nervous system connects the central nervous system to:
1. Limbs

The central nervous system can be divided into:
1. brain
2. spinal cord
The brain is where most of the processing is happening.
The spinal cord sends signals to and from the brain, and to and from the rest of the body.
Sensory signals come into the spinal cord, and motor signals go out to the peripheral
nervous system.
The peripheral nervous system consists of the somatic nervous system, and the autonomic
nervous system.
The somatic nervous system controls voluntary activities where skeletal muscles are
involved.
The autonomic nervous system controls involuntary actions like heart rate, respiration
rate, and digestion.
The autonomic nervous system can be divided into:
