The movement involved sncc, mostly white women in sds. Sds: women were heavily involved in many different issues, vietnam protests, ucb free speech movement. Women (both white and black) did women"s work -- secretaries, fetching coffee, support staff. Involved in a movement centered on equality, yet being treated unequally. Sexual tension -- women would show how liberal they were by having sex with men outside of marriage, yet the double standard and negative connotation remained. Contradictions started to come to a head in 1965-67.
