He is really nearsighted so he couldn"t fight in combat but he helped the army make training films. By 1954, his acting career was drying up. Gave a standards speech to a bank about the dangers of government, the dangers of unions -- he was shifting his party affiliation. By the end of the 1950s, he was a republican, and became a leading spokesperson for the party. Reagan ran for office in 1964 but only won in the south. 1970s: turning inward and turning away from government. Liberal policies appear to not work as well. Gerald ford had the approval of the american people until he pardoned nixon. Thought it would put the scandal behind them. Combination of stagnant economy because of unemployment, but also inflation happening. Style of dance was individualistic, not spinning a partner.
