EDU 110 Lecture 5: Lecture 5
Document Summary
How much we care about what"s happening in other people"s minds. We are trying to understand the perspective of the other per son. From infancy we learn by interacting with others by: "no single factor and corresponding set of explanatory principles can alone provide a complete account. Instead multiple forc es of development, each with its own set of explanatory principles, are involved (wertsch, 1985). Internalization - we learn through observing and interacting with others. Distributed cognition - building on the collective knowledge, clarifying, organizing your own understanding. Framing - other people influence the way we interpret the environment. Other people or tools help us solve problems that seem beyond our ability. Learning takes place in a social context first and then it is internalized. Grasping --> interpreted as pointing --> real pointing. Social speech --> self regulatory "private" speech --> internal speech.
