Social media - a form of computer mediated communication. Social media (carr & hayes, 2015) - are internet-based, disentrainted, & persistent channels of mass personal communication facilitating perceptions of interactions among users, deriving value primarily from user-generated content . Disentrainted - it needs to support asynchronous communication (need non-live interaction; time gap) Mass personal communication- mass communication combined w/ interpersonal communication. Talks about the importance that social media should be interactive or perceived as being social. Social media needs to provide opportunities for ppl to create & post their own content (ex: pics, videos, etc. ) Ability to construct a private or semi- private profile. Ability to create a list of users they are connected with. Ex: friends on fb; followers on instagram.
