Document Summary
Immediate bodily responses are aimed at boosting our physical abilities to flight or run away: resistance stage: body physically prepares for a longer, more sustained attack against a stressor. Immunity to the infection and disease increases somewhat as the body maximizes its defenses: exhaustion stage: after being exposed to a stressor for a long time, the body finally reaches this stage. The body"s ability to respond to stress begins to decline: various physiological systems - such as the immune system, begin to fail. Immune response: stress interferes with the natural process of having the immune system launching into action to destroy the invaders to our body, the effects of long-term stress make the body less capable of warding off foreign substances. Fight-or-flight response: flight-or-flight response = the physiological preparedness of animals to deal with danger, enables organism to direct its energy to dealing w the threat, it has no more physical reserves to deal with additional stressors.
