Depression *** chart 4 (categories of symptoms: many feel temporary depression due to sad/traumatic event, major depression intense depressed state leaving person unable to function effectively. Season affective disorder (sad) depressive episodes displaying seasonal pattern: commonly in fall/winter, improving in spring/summer, symptoms weight gain, lack of energy, excessive sleep. Prevalence of mood disorders: 1 in 5 americans have a depressed episode at some point, more common in women. Mood disorder episodes: initial episodes last 5-10 months w/o treatment, patterns.
