9.3 Congress: The Electoral Connection (1974)

-Jobs of representatives:
-Delegate — acts based on the views or desires of their constituents
(Representatives)
-Trustee — focuses on national interest and their conscience (Senators)
-Very few people are one or the other, many fall in to both of the categories more or
less
-Activities
-Advertising — build a brand name and make yourself more attractive and
noticeable to people
-Credit Claim — build a resume, brag about things you did
-Position Taking — claim clearly where you stand on key issues because they want
to be as clear as possible to your constituents
-Being a little bit wishy-washy lets people gain more voters and opens them up to
compromise later down the road
