Cadmus, brother of europa, is tasked to find her. He went to the oracle who told him to perform a different task. The oracle told him to follow a sacred cow to a resting spot: this resting spot will be a new city in boeotia. Cadmus went to get water and killed a dragon guarding the spring: he plucks the dragon"s teeth and planted them as seeds. The teeth sprout and produced warriors: cadmus threw rocks at the warriors and got them to fight each other, those who survived became founders of thebes. There were 2 twins amphion and zetheus. They competed to build a new city. Amphion played the lyre and stones began to move and build a wall of thebes. Amphion became the founder of thebes which had 7 gates. Father was king of thebes, laius, who descended from cadmus. Oracle tells laius that his son will kill him.
