Men are more likely to be murdered by non-intimates (e. g. strangers, acquaintances) Women are more likely to be murdered by intimates (e. g. family, spouse: tend to have known, even loved, the person that murdered them, higher risk for intimate partners compared to all other categories, extends to sexual assaults. In jealousy there is more self-love than love larochefoucauld. U. s. data: ~1500 women are murdered by current/former husband/boyfriend per year, 2 million assaults by partner/boyfriend, every year (straus & gelles, 1990) Mullen and maack (1985) assessed 138 cases of jealous-induced violence: partner attacked in 71 cases, rival attacked in 7 cases. Puente & cohen, 2003: study 1. Men were asked to imagine: 1) innocuous, 2) flirting, 3) sexual. Across wife behaviours, people perceived that the jealous = more romantic love. In the innocuous condition, the non-jealous reaction was seen as more respectful: study 2.
