Masculinity is extremely fragile: you constantly have to reassert that you are a man. Video: american male: i am no longer a person a product of social cues", i am the path of less resistance". When is it okay for a man to cry: when he is in extreme pain, the death of a family member. Must be immediately accompanied by an explicit expression of anger. When a man cries, there are tears but must still have a stoic expression: no ugly crying allowed. Has to look like you"re trying really hard to not cry. Other men heavily police men who are crying: e. g. The rigid masculinity men find themselves locked into is entirely constructed by society. To be not gender-conforming, you are labelled as homosexual/feminine: not men homosexual/women. Men must maintain the illusion of invulnerability: link to crying discussion, no communication about problems or asking for help.
