Lecture: attraction: a role for men and one for women. To those whose presence is rewarding to us. A complex procedure: the perceived characteristic of the other person. You fill in the blanks with aspects of yourself: needs, preferences and desires, rewarding experiences with another. Similarity is the basis of attraction: makes interactions less frictional. T1 lyrics: he is bringing money and she"s solely bring her body and her amazing sex skills, a pretty clear exchange. Marketplace: different sexes = different things to trade. Gendered differences in wants/needs: ability to propagate genes (buss) Men can produce offspring much more frequently. Women need a provider since they invest way more time producing an offspring. Men are more likely to prefer younger, attractive women: trend seen worldwide. Gendered differences in jealousy: buss, larsen, westen, semmelroth (1992) Men: emotional < sexual (link to knowing offspring is yours) Women: emotional > sexual (separate resource allocation) Jealousy in men is due to sexual/reproductive uncertainty.
