Document Summary
Eye-tracking studies (understand how fixation patterns indicate processing) Visual world paradigm : use left aligned text for reading. Result showed that listeners fixed more on object that overlap with target signal phonologically. Experiment based on that - looking at the target picture and competitor picture ; they fixated more (their eyes) were longer on competitor picture when phonologically related to target. Basic idea of priming: if two things are similar to each other in processing, they will either assist with or interfere with each other. But, if unrelated, they will have no effect. Semantic priming -> easier to recognize a word when you"ve seen a word related in meaning. Priming: presentation of a preceding stimulus/event influences the response to the following stimulus ; facilitation- prime speeds up the response to the target word, inhibition- prime slows down the response to the target word. In a primed lexical decision task, (fixation -> prime.
