Lashley trained rats to go through a maze - wanted to see the way rats stored memory of this behavior by lesioning. Could not find a particular place for learned procedural memory. Ethical issues - squire and his colleagues worked with e. p. for a decade or more, how does e. p. give consent to this, he can"t remember, working with patients who have memory issues. Did not have mental capacity to say no or understand. 1953, doctors tried experimental seizure to relieve seizures. Removed parts of hippocampus, and temporal lobe, (function was then unknown)
