Ganglion cells, then cortex - more complex processing. Directional lines, v1, swirls v2, complex blobs are v4. Each of the sides are bent in a real way - semisoid. Our eyes are not used to processing this, from one side it"s square-ish, from one side, it"s circular. Scientists disagree how many visual areas there are and the boundaries between the v1 and v2. ), v4 and this mt/v5 are found in the junction of the occipital and temporal lobe. As we talk more about areas, we will be moving further away from the v1, and covering more of the brain"s surface. Easier to see organization when the brain is flattened. No worries of bumps, and wrinkles of the brain. Flattened version shows the general representation of how vision is processed from the fovea to the cortex. In a folded and crinkled version, hard to see. Visual field has a huge cortical representation.
