James was supposed to be a model for behavior during this but was not. This starts to split james"s council: most are blaming the howard faction. They tried to divert james" attention away from howards": george villiers (22 year old cutie) charms the king, if they can divert james, they can keep his attention off of the howards. After this scandal breaks: cup holder, gentleman of the bedchamber, master of the horse, viscount buckingham. Howards notice what"s going on and introduce someone new to james: doesn"t work, james hearts buckingham. Buckingham uses his power to go after the howards. He is seen as out of his depth by old money . Howards are a good target: howard added to the crowns debt, he sold knighthoods, buckingham goes after him and he ends up imprisoned. 1620 buckingham has done a good job getting howards out: he is not supervised because of james" affection.
