Being in parliament costs lots of money. 40 shilling free holder your land has to make that much in rent to vote. No secret votes: you had to vote in front of your patron with them watching. James tries to influence elections: frances goodwin is elected, not who james wanted, james goes to court of chancery. They outlawed him for not paying a fine long before. Seen as a joke: 2nd election. John fortesque is elected: parliament refuses since it was almost fixed, james insists on not being subtle or lenient on any disputes. He tells them they are there by his grace, not their right. He doesn"t understand parliament here at all: james sends 2nd command to meet with judges. James addresses the union of scotland and england: they tell him the church sects agree to union under english common law and parliament. No union, but james has his title changed to king of great britain.
