Document Summary

Sexual: gonads produce haploid gametes by meiosis, gametes unite during fertilization forming a diploid zygote, zygote= first cell of a new offspring. The two female cycles: ovarian cycle- controls oocyte maturation in the ovaries, endometrial cycle- controls lining of the uterus. The menstrual cycle: period finishes, endometrium thickens lets get ready for pregnancy! , progesterone/estrogen make endometrium grow, endometrium is very thick, waiting for zygote wheres my zygote? , estrogen maintains thickness of endometrium. If zygote is not implanted, endometrium is shed too late for implantation, try again next time : menstrual flow phase- 0-5, proliferatorive phase 5-15, secretory phase 15-28/30. If implantation occurs, hormone is released that allows corpus luteum to not shrink, menstruation does not occur: haploid cell initiates meiosis ii, travels down fallopian tube, egg is ready to be fertilized by sperm. Two ovaries, each surrounded by fingerlike extensions of one uterine tube: eggs produced inside the ovaries.
