It is characterized by physical changes, including physical growth, sexually dimorphic facial structure, voice, and body characteristics such as genital developmental in boys and and breast development in girls. This results in the secretion of steroid hormones from the gonads (e. g. , testosterone and estradiol), which have effects on physical and psychological development. Adolescents and young adults (under 25) tend to take more risks e. g. dangerous driving, binge drinking, cigarette smoking, sexual risk taking, violent and criminal behavior.
