Predictions: most predictions relied on the use of free recall serial position functions. Free recall : series of stimuli (list of words, written or verbal recall, scored as correct if correct item is recalled regardless of position (no specific order, unlike serial recall (must repeat in correct order) Serial position functions (primacy effect and recency effect) Modal model account serial position curve is a result of recalling items from 2 stores. Items then recalled from ltm: accounts for both primacy and recency effects. Model model account of primacy primacy effect due to the fact that the first few items get more rehearsals than other items (more rehearsals before bumped out if stm) transferred to. Model model account of recency recency effect due to the fact the last 4-7 items are still in consciousness (still in stm at time of recall). Leads to nearly perfect recall of these items.
