Damage (lesion) to a particular area of the left half of the patient"s brain prevented him from saying anything other than. People with damage to broca"s area have difficulty with speech production but have relatively spared comprehension. Suggests that this specific part of the brain is responsible for the production of speech. Can understand what is being said or written to them. Patients can produce speech fluently but the content of the speech is relatively meaningless (called word salad) This specific part of the brain is responsible for language comprehension. Associated with damage to the most posterior brain region.
