What is the history of heal?how and where did the agency develop: 30 years ago, height of the aids epidemic as an aids service. What major changes have occured: aids crisis- now expanded programs to include more resources. They found that since the aids epidemic has improved a lot of people they were serving were having difficulties with substance use. Heal quadrupled in size in the 5 years and only started off with only 4 employees. How is this agency different from the one"s within the community: only syringe exchange in the bangor area. They are affiliated with harm reduction alliance statewide. Is there public push back: trying to get a new space in ellsworth. It"s hard for them to find spaces once towns or building owners learn what services they will be providing. Sometimes it just takes building relationships with neighbors and preventing future problems. In the bangor building they do checks in the bathroom for needles.
