May decrease in early adolescence (12-14 years) Barometric (situational) self-esteem decreases more than baseline self-esteem. More opportunity to pursue domains of interest/importance-niche picking. May deter a person from pursing education career goals, social relationships. Adolescence is a key time for exploring identity. Adolescent males and females still face considerable pressure to engage in gender. Androgyny demonstrate both masculine and feminine traits.
