Clinical gaze: looking at a body just as a body. Can"t touch someone in a way that"s detached . Involves active reciprocity (can"t touch without being touch backed) Three characteristics: reciprocal, impactful, gesture (our touch is significant on a personal level) Why do we create this environments that are maximized for sterility but not considering patient"s comfort level. Make it less industrial and less like a factory. Can gain better healing by focusing on architecture. Used a lot of data to back up his claims. Found people who have windowed rooms generally have better rates of healing: ulrich = architecture. Can lower a patient"s blood pressure & help them sleep. Found evidence of people who have more art/nature in their room they needed less medication. Shatel = social environment is most important about when it comes to healing. Pierce = role of ecology and environmentalism in healing.
