Mass/mediated communication: back in the day it was referred to as mass because they looked at the audience as one giant group of people. Now: so many more demographics and such, more one on one through mediated channels (2005- Hypodermic needle model: the magic bullet or transmission model, notion that media can magically inject thoughts and ideas into peoples minds, audience= passive and incapable of resisting in uence. Has since been debunked (except for media dependency theory)
