Document Summary
Form a hypothesis about the relationship between variable. Variable an aspect of a study that can change. Test the hypothesis by collecting data using operational definitions of variables. Operational definition: definition of a variable that specifies how it is measured/manipulated in a particular experiment. Theory : set of principles that explain a set of observations. Test the theory by generating new hypothesis. Describes characteristics of a certain phenomenon/group of people. Any given person may be atypical, nonrepresentative. Use surveys in order to draw conclusions about a population based on a sample. Sample: subset of the population that participates in the research. Random sample that is representative of the population, because every member of the population has an equal chance of inclusion. Recording the behavior of organisms in their natural environment. Observation of behavior in natural settings (no artificial labs) Correlation: measure of how closely related 2 variables are. 2 correlated variable are predictive of each other.
