Document Summary
When law does not permit the truth of an opinion to be discussed they are just as little tolerant of the denial of its usefulness. Infallibility is the undertaking to decide that questions for others, without allowing them to hear what can be said on the contrary side. The advantage of truth is that no matter how many times it is put down, it will eventually be rediscovered. We are not yet free from the strain of legal persecution. There is no security that prohibits legal persecution. Even if we do not inflict as much evil on those who think differently form us now, we do ourselves as much evil as we do them. The greatest harm is not done to heretics, but to those who are fearful of heresy. Chapter 37: mill on the liberty of thought and discussion part 2 p. 420. Discussing now when true of opinions is not freely and openly canvased.
