Our perceptions are always true because they come from god, but our judgments are what deceived us. Substances do not act upon one another, they are all completely independent, they can correspond one another but will never share identical notions. God furnished man with language which is his greatest tie to society. The names which stand for things have all arisen from sensible ideas. Signification of words words are sensible signs necessary for communication. Words help invisible thoughts not known to others become visible. The use of words is to be sensible mark of ideas and the ideas they stand for are their proper and immediate signification. Secret reference to t9 things: what they say matches the other persons conception of those words and second, what they say represents reality. Confusion comes when we make words stand for something besides those ideas we have in our mind. The far greatest part of words that make up language are general terms.
