Essence consists solely of the fact that i am a thinking thing. And also has a body that is a simply extended non-thinking thing. I am really distinct form my body and can exist without it. Social modes of thinking sensory perception and imagination, cannot understand these faculties without me. The distinction between them and myself corresponds to the distinction between the modes of a thing and the thing itself. By my own nature i understand nothing other than the totality of things bestowed on me by god. Should not doubt the truth nature presents. Nature shows that body and mind form a unit, and also that various other bodies exist as well, and my body can be affected by various beneficial/harmful bodies which surround it. Nature does guide us to avoid pain and produce pleasure, but we are not supposed to make conclusions about external thongs until our intellect has examined them.
