Gods tend to stay away from him beacuse of his connection with death. Takes little interest in souls of kingdom. Doesn"t cause or demand death of living. Does not carry souls down to underworld. Not a lot of places for worship for hades. Lack of sanctuaries suggest that hades can"t fend off death. Suggest that he can"t improve one"s lot in underworld. Really just about what greeks think about death and the afterlife. First underworld west of where sun sets. Most greek authors pictured underworld actually under the world. From there hades sends up things that keep life going- minerals and plants. Alternative name: pluton (of wealth); roman: pluto. Won"t let dead souls back into land of living. Often the main olympian assocaited with bringing the dead to hades. Herakles subdues cerberus, shows him off, then returns him. Very few people get to go there. Majority souls just wander eternally in the dark expanse of hades.
