Astr ptys 170b2 - lecture 17 - the outer solar system cont. Ammonia, ammonium hydrosulfide, and water are responsible for jupiter"s colors. Bulk density 700 kg/cubic meters - it could float on water. Cassini orbited and landed on one of its moons. Appearance: clouds lie deeper inside the atmosphere, muted brown color is debated. Similar zonal winds to jupiter, but faster (by three to four times!) Saturn"s rings named by alphabet based on time discovered (not in order) Particles size from grain of sand to mountain size. May be only up to 200 years old. Titan: larger than mercury, 1. 8 lunar masses, 1. 5 lunar radii. 0rbit around saturn: 16 days. Its atmosphere is unusually thick and the ,oon is covered in an orange haze composed of organic molecules. Lakes of liquid methane, liquid ocean in the interior, ice layers above and below. Enceladus: tiger stripes, much warmer than surrounding surface. Uranus: bulk density 1320 kg/ cubed meters, 19 au from sun.
