In the nervous system peripheral nervous system (autonomic) ~ex: increased heart rate, sweating, shaking, sudden bursts of energy. Even unpleasant emotions are important and adaptive to experience. Fear: nature"s alarm system to protect us form getting hurt. Anxiety: prepares us for potentially negative or dangerous events. Sadness: signals a need to take care of yourself and seek social support. Anger: signals a threat to something you care about, and warns others against harming or mistreating you.
