Power: ability to inflict your will on other people. Some groups are able to take advantage of other. The basis of social life is conflict, it is part of daily life. The unit of analysis is sub-groups within society. Subgroups: social classes, the rich vs. poor, republican vs. democrat, pro-life vs. pro- choice, black vs. white, male. vs female. Conflict paradigm is premised on the idea that power is important and some groups or individuals are able to implore their power on others. There is symbolic relationship between the haves and the have-nots. Colonialism: we are going to exploit labor and benefit from the labor of slaves, economically subjugate them. There is a lot of variation between proletariat and bourgeoisie. One person"s gain is to the other"s determent. Politics: democrats and republicans, when the democrats are in power the republicans suffer and vice versa.
