The role of bis (amygdala) and bas (nucleus accumbens) in decision-making. The bis and bas are important to the motivational aspect of decision-making. Emotion results from the appraisal of an event or set of circumstances. Once an emotion is generated the motivational component of the emotion is used in making decisions. Bas (approach motivation) and bis (avoidance motivation) mediate the motivational component of an emotion. The motivational component of the emotion either says: 1) bas: go for it because you will receive a reward. or; 2)bis: danger, stay away or you will be punished.
