Baddeley"s model of working memory replaces atkinson"s short term memory. This is the original model, later on he added the episodic bu er(coming soon!) Phonological store holds information in speech form and then the information gets lost. Articulatory loop refreshes the phonological store; controlled process called rehearsal. Subvocalization: reading to yourself with your inner voice; written word turns into speech. Has a store and processor for visual information. Spatial: movement, moves up to parietal lobe. Pasat - paced auditory serial addition task: numbers presented sequentially and you have to add two of them at a time so you inhibit the sum, uses attention, inhibition, echoic sensory store, phonological loop. Simultaneously, they are given a digit span task. Components of the working memory are separate independent subsystems. If two tasks use the same working memory systems, they cannot be performed simultaneously. You can perform a verbal and visual tasks simultaneously because they"re different capacities.
